Jose Miguel Almeida Yalico Jose Miguel is a 10-year-old boy from Cerro de Pasco. His mother died when he was four. His father was illiterate and an alcoholic that did not provide any emotional or economic support for the child. Instead he abandoned Jose Miguel in the home of a family from Cusco. The family used Jose Miguel as servant and put him in the streets to sell candies. He was not given any money and was kept from going to school in those circumstances. Jose escaped from that family and arrived at the Shama Center in September 2004. He was very shy and hardly spoke. He did not trust people and had fear and dislike for women. His self-esteem was very low. Currently Jose Miguel is in the process of being restored. He is going to school and he feels he is part of the family at the Shama Center. He is learning to live and share with other kids. Especially important for him is learning to forgive. Jose Miguel has not yet accepted Jesus in his life but has respect for the Word of God. We believe he will soon make a decision for Jesus. We know that Jose?s recovery will take years but God is already in charge. Marcos Zuleta Gomez Marcos is already a teenager. He is 13 years old and was born in Lima. His mother was involved in alcohol and drugs and was living in the streets. She died a few years after Marcos was born. His father was also an alcoholic and was hardly ever at home. When his mother died he was left in the care of an older sister and his father. The physical and emotional abuse from his father was so hard to endure that Marcos was already in the streets inhaling ?terocal? at the age of eight. (?terocal? is a glue used by street kids to get stoned). During the time Marco was in the streets (from 8 to 13), he lived by eating what ever he could find in garbage dumps and slept near the ocean or in parks. Adult males sexually abused him, leaving him with deep scars and unhealthy sexual attitudes. Marcos arrived at the Shama Center in August 2004. He was very needy and had difficulty following instructions and learning to live with others. He did not know how to read or write. Currently he is going through a process of restoration. He is learning to read and write and feels he is part of the Shama family. He has overcome his addiction to ?terocal? and is learning to live with others. A few weeks ago he asked his tutor to help him give his life to Jesus so he can have God?s help in not getting into fights with the other kids. Marcos recovery will take years but we can already see the miracles God is doing in his life. Would you like to become a channel of blessing in the recovery of Marcos by sponsoring him? ?He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done? Harold Antonio Joya Munante Harold is a 9-year-old boy from Lima. His parents are well known as people that use their kids to earn money. They have 9 children and send them all to beg in the streets. Each one has to make at least 40 soles (US$12) a day. If they don?t make that amount, they are punished and mistreated. This money is used to support the drug and alcohol habit of a father that does not work. Harold got tired of being abused by his parents and decided not to return home. He stayed in the streets and slept near the newspaper stands. He was desperate for love. He arrived at the Shama Center in February 2005. He was malnourished and had speech problems. His face showed the pain and abandonment he was experiencing. He was addicted to being in the streets. He?s currently in a process of recovery and is learning to read and write. He feels he has a family at the Shama Center. He is overcoming the habit of living in the streets and is learning to live with other kids. Victor Gonzales Carbajal Victor is a 9-year-old boy from Lima. He suffered physical abuse from an alcoholic father that hit him without cause. Victor tried to escape from his environment and hung out in the streets. He slept in the parks. One day, tired of being abused, he decided to remain in the streets and not return to his father. He started begging and was exposed to dangerous situations. He started to inhale ?terokal? (glue). Terocal is the cheapest way to become stoned and many street kids are addicted to it. Victor arrived at the Shama Center in July 2005. He had severe emotional and physical problems. He is small for his age; he?s malnourished and has serious speech and behavioral problems. His condition is a result of the physical and psychological abuse from his father and the lack of love since birth. Victor is learning to share and is starting to play with other kids. He will soon be going to school so he can learn to read and write. He shows interest in the Word of God. Victor?s restoration is just starting.
